January has seen the Big Lake live up to its reputation as one of the best winter waters around with some great captures falling many  of our members.

The left hand point swim produced the goods on many occasions this past month with Jayson Caysey landing a cracking mirror of 33lb 7oz.

Karl Hall also enjoyed a great spell with mirrors of 29lb 14oz, 32lb and 32lb 8oz and the’ Dalmatian’ Koi at 34lb. Louis Lammy had a great session bagging the ‘Chunk’ at 39lb 5oz and a 35lb 8oz mirror in quick succession.

A three fish haul was also enjoyed by Colin Peto who managed a 28lb common, 34lb mirror and topped it off with ‘Four Scale’ at 39lb 12oz, yet another forty in the making for us. ‘Cut Tail’ fell to Danny Davies at 39lb along with a 31lb mirror also.

Finally a new UK PB came for Glen Blunden in the shape of the ‘Mommon’ at a new all time high weight of 42lb 12oz, a great result for Glen, again from the left hand point swim.

The Valley Lakes have seen very few anglers wanting to brave the cold over the last few weeks but Dave Levy did manage a stunning 27lb leather and Dave Springall enjoyed an action packed overnighter on the Car Park Lake landing twelve Carp to 22lb using Baitcraft Halo boilies.

Our ongoing Crayfish removal project has proven to be a massive success over the past few weeks. To date we have removed 1,250kg of Crays from the complex with literally hundreds of yards of baited netting. Removal will continue to take place on a fortnightly basis until the numbers are well and truly under control. Moving forwards we are sure this will improve the quality and enjoyment of the angling at Fryerning, and the winter results even at these early stages speak for themselves.
