AUGUST UPDATE by Carl Carlucci

Another great month's fishing at Fryerning Fisheries

I’ve just spent the morning with the rest of the XL team netting some of our many stock ponds. People tend to forget that as well as running a fishery Fryerning is also a major fish farming operation, supplying our own beautiful strain of fast growing Carp to fisheries across the country.

There were some real stunners in the nets this morning so let’s start this month’s report with the capture of an absolutely classic home bred Fryerning Common of 29lb 2oz from the Valley Lake.

The fish fell to the rods of Kyran Beard who was on his very first trip to the lake, and is a new PB for Kyran, who for good measure stopped off and caught a 20lb Mirror from the Car Park Lake before he left for home. Not a bad start at all!

Oliver and Elliot Bertram fishing with their father Steve have had a truly remarkable months fishing with the whole family breaking their PB’s in just a couple of trips.

It was the youngest family member Oliver who got off the mark first catching a whopping new PB Common of 32lb 6oz. The fish was a little on the large side for Oliver to handle on his own, luckily big brother Elliot was on hand to help, holding the fish for the pictures!

It was Elliot’s turn next taking six fish over 25lb in the space of a couple of trips topped off by a new PB Common of 33lb 5oz. And not to be left out dad Steve broke his PB which had stood for thirty years with a Mirror of 25lb 14oz.

Up onto the Main Lake now, where Adam Reed had a quick over night session and smashed his PB with one of the fisheries most prized residents.

Adam has only fished the water on a handful of occasions but having seen fish moving in a marginal area on his previous trip used this knowledge to great effect to outwit The Boss at a weight of 46lb 3oz.

A great piece of angling from an obviously delighted Adam, who I’m sure will go on to feature regularly in this column.

Just an hour after Adam’s capture James Ellis who also has an uncanny knack of catching from the Main Lake was at it again this time taking the impressive and beautifully proportioned Round Tail Common at 39lb.

Well done to all the guys on their captures this month.

Finally, on one of the few bright sunny mornings of the month I was fortunate to slip the net under one of the Main Lakes most striking carp the Zip Linear at a weight of 36lb 8oz.

At the time I had the lake pretty much to myself which isn’t that rare with only 25 members on the Main Lake, it was one of those special moments that only a carp angler can really appreciate.

The capture was even more pleasing due to it being my first session using Urban Bait’s outstanding Nutcracker bait.

With the Main Lake fish continuing to pack on the weight, and with September historically producing some of the complexes’ best fishing, I’m sure I’ll have some great stories to tell you next time.

Until then, have a great months fishing!
