April Update 2014 By Adam Penning

Today was my first day off for ages and I took a drive down to Fryerning to get the catch reports and see what was going on.

FRYERNING REPORT – APRIL 2014

The day was warm and with light drizzle – proper carpy! As it was bank holiday weekend I expected the lake to be busy but no, only about 6 on – I was tempted to go home and get the rods!

I spoke to Charlie and found out that the lake had fished its head off since I was last there a few weeks ago. Many of the big girls have been out although there are still plenty of them left to go for. Top of the pile was Peter Dare who netted the coveted Gurm at 50.10. Peter caught the Queen of the lake from the Left Hand Point and snared it on a zig rig. When she gets on a munch the old girl can get caught in quick succession and it was Ben Jefford who was next in line, bagging her at 50.8 from the Millstone. Ben used Cell to catch her this time and it was nice to see her getting to eat some bait rather than just black foam!

Mister Consistent was the Snake Charmer who followed up his capture last month of the Stripe with the Chunk at 39.6. A zig cast from the Dam getting him closer to his sought after forty. I bet when you get one, you’ll get two at once! Good luck mate!

New member and all round nice guy, Peter Hudd has put in a lot of time since joining but he has certainly made it count with mirrors of 31, 34 and 35lbs gracing his net over two sessions, catching from the both the Lodge and the Point. Peter uses Nutcracker and having seen him angle, I am sure there will be many more coming his way.

Man of the moment is yet again the hugely enthusiastic James Ellis who is probably the most successful angler on the lake. James accounted for the ever desirable Mommon at a new lake record 45.10 and as if that wasn’t enough, added fish of 34lb and 37lbs!

James caught from the Royal Box using Nashbait. Top result that man!!!

Other members tasting success included Sam Walker who caught Charlie (the fish, not the good looking young chap) at a new personal best of 42lb. Sam fished the Log swim using Cell. Steven Fox bagged the lovely Luke’s Common at 39.6 from the Lodge, also on Cell while James Dalton slayed the Nun, also at 42lbs from the Point. Well done all of you!

A flick through the catches from the Valley revealed an astonishing number of 25-29lb fish topped by a couple of thirties. John Holosego (hope I got that right) landed a 32lb common from the Logs while an angler known only as ‘KP’ bagged a 36lb common – very possibly a lake record common.

Other news; the new shower / toilet block is now fully operational. I would like to say that I was the first to christen it but after walking all the way down to the old one in the pouring rain, I met Chris on the way back and he told me he had just opened the new one! Doh! Lovely facilities chaps – let’s keep them that way,

The Fryerning XL website is updated on a daily basis so be sure to keep an eye on that for all catch and fishery related news. Lastly, all catches MUST be entered in the report logs which can be found outside the Lodge – please don’t forget! See you next month!
