WOW, what a month it has been down at Fryerning, with more forties than you can shake a throwing stick at and 2 fifities being caught, the month has already gone down in the complexes history as the Magnificent May of 2015!

Barry Byson got the month off to a flyer catching the fishery’s largest Common, the mighty Mommon at 47lb 7oz. This torpedo shaped fish is renowned for its fighting abilities and having hooked it at close range Barry was run ragged by the fish before he finally slipped the net under his new PB.

Barry was rightfully ecstatic with the capture, which was also caught on video and it can now be seen on our website, be sure to check it out.

Congratulations to Barry on what he said was “a fish of a lifetime”

The team have put in some real hard work this spring, placing straw sausages into all of the lakes and monitoring the water quality closely. The effort has certainly paid off; and this has undoubtedly been the main contributing factor in the dramatic growth rates we’ve experienced.

There have been an amazing number of rarely seen and previously uncaught upper thirties turning up which is very exciting for members and management alike!

A number of fish have also pushed through the magical forty pound barrier this month, one of which is the beautiful Stripe which fell to rods of Welles McCarthy at a new PB weight of 40lb 4oz.

Another new forty was landed by Aaron West with a 41lb 4oz Grass Carp. This takes the Main Lakes tally of forties to fifteen, but it was a capture of a new 50 that set the pulses racing and tongues wagging!

Just days after Ian Davies landed the friendly Gurm at 52lb 14oz it was long term member Mark Shildrake that banked Fryerning’s second fifty the monstrous Boss at 50lb 2oz.

Mark arrived late on a Sunday afternoon for a quick overnighter and just an hour after flicking out a single DT Baits N Blend pop up found himself connected to what he initially thought was a small fish.

As the battle progressed though it soon became apparent that Mark was attached to something rather special. A dogged fight in the margins ensued before the big girl was finally netted.

I was fortunate enough to be on the net for Mark and with fishery owner Chris Knowles present we hoisted the stunning fish on the scales to witness them spin past the fifty pound mark.

It was a privilege to share this special moment with Mark and Chris, who are both equally deserving of this capture, as are team members Charlie and Scott for all of their hard work. Well done to you all!

The Boss is a huge framed fish and could well go on to be the complexes largest resident, a sixty in the making?

Two other massive carp caught this month fell to Christy Mckeon and Andy “Spud” Murphy. Christy smashed his PB with the gorgeous Woodcarving, now an upper forty at 46lb.

And as I sat writing this Andy Murphy banked the Nunn at a whopping 47lb.

Well done to all the guys on their fish.

There’s still a few big fish yet to be caught, who knows what will happen next?!

I’ll let you know next month. Good fishing to you all!
